Here at EverBee, we understand how important it is to optimize your listings to get traffic. But, with so many keywords to choose from, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. In this article, we'll break down the basics of choosing the right keywords for your listings with EverBee. πŸ’―

What is a Tag and why they are important

"Tags" are words or phrases that describe your listing. As we know, Etsy allows 13 tags per listing, these tags can be up to 20 characters long (most commonly known as "long tail keywords") or can be a single word as well.

Etsy will use these "Tags" to match the shoppers' searches and to find relevant results. This means that these tags are made to inform Etsy more details about your product, so they can match your product with a particular search.

How to find Tags

There are 3 different ways to see and analyze your competitor's tags:

1) Individual analytics: Click on the bee logo located at the bottom right corner of each listing
2) Open the listing details from our analytics table: Click on the listing row to see more insights
3) Use our tag analyzer: You can analyze all the tags/keywords used in your listings and get insights into your competition's tags too.

Brainstorm potential keywords πŸ’

Essentially, we want to find all the keywords that our potential customers are searching for on Etsy. Start by writing down any words or phrases that come to mind when you think about your product. For example, if you're selling handmade jewelry, some relevant keywords could be "handmade jewelry," "unique jewelry," or "custom jewelry." Think about what your ideal customer might search for when looking for a product like yours.

Research your competition πŸ”

Research your competition to see what keywords they're using. Look at their product titles, tags, and descriptions to get an idea of what keywords are working for them. Don't copy their keywords exactly, but use them as inspiration for your own keyword list.

πŸ’‘In case you already have one competitor in mind, you can go ahead and use our shop analyzer feature. Next, move on and utilize our Tag Analyzer to get all of the tags found in your competitors' listings.
Use long-tail keywords

Rather than targeting short, highly competitive keywords such as "jewelry", focusing on long-tail keywords like "handmade bohemian jewelry" or "gemstone statement necklace" can help you to attract your target audience to your Etsy store.

Use the Etsy search bar

You can also get inspiration from the Etsy Search Bar! πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Start typing in keywords related to your product, and see what other suggestions come up. These suggestions are based on popular searches, so they're a great starting point for finding keywords that will attract buyers to your shop.

Check your keyword ranking βœ…

Our listing rank tracker allows you to monitor the rankings of your product listings for specific keywords over time. With this feature, you will be able to see how these keywords are performing in the Etsy Search results. We will display the organic ranking (without Ads) of these keywords.

.

How can we interpret this data?

Our listing rank tracker will let you know which keywords are performing well and which ones aren’t ... as we can see in the previous picture. There are 5 keywords that are performing well and are in our top 10 for the selected listing.

E.g. Our "Mother's Day card" has achieved a Top 10 organic ranking for 5 keywords on Etsy Search results. In other words, they are using 5 keywords that are driving traffic to their shop πŸ‘€

You can repeat this process and continually monitor and adjust your keyword strategy based on what's working and what's not. Etsy's search algorithm is constantly changing, so it's important to stay up to date for keyword research and optimization.

After following these steps, you can start adding these newly selected keywords to your listings!
